The Clusters TWEED and H2O play a catalytic role in promoting and structuring high value-added sectors with high expertise and export potential in the fields of energy and water.
The structuring of sectors crystallises around the establishment of ecosystems of actors, partnerships and projects corresponding to sub-segments with high potential for the economic development of its members and the environmental transition of the region.
The Clusters TWEED & H2O, relying on the know-how of its members, positions itself as a recognized center of expertise and a reliable partner for actors (private or public) concerned by environmental issues.
The Clusters offer in particular cutting-edge expertise related to energy, hydrogen, heating networks, CO2, sustainable mobility and even themes related to the water sector.

The H2HUB ecosystem: dedicated to hydrogen The future of green hydrogen sometimes sparks debates, particularly on some of its applications. However, one thing is certain: this sector will play an essential role in the years to come because it is indispensable for a successful energy transition. It is for this reason that the Walloon region approved in 2024 the Walloon strategic plan for the development of the hydrogen production and valorization sector in Wallonia.
Except for natural hydrogen, hydrogen is not a primary energy like natural gas or renewable energies (wind, solar, hydraulic). It must therefore be considered as an energy carrier, just like electricity.

TWEED launched and has been running the Heat2Net ecosystem since 2023, specifically dedicated to renewable thermal energy, including geothermal energy and heating/cooling networks as well as the valorization of waste heat. The objective of Heat2Net is to provide a transversal vision on the main initiatives related to the deployment of green thermal energy in Wallonia, to federate them, ultimately to promote the emergence of a maximum of reproducible sustainable projects that have an impact on achieving Wallonia’s climate objectives. This is made possible through communication, collaboration, cross-sectoral dialogue and knowledge sharing, at regional, national and international levels.

Wall4Grid: an initiative to support the adaptation of networks. Wall4GRiD aims to bring together projects and actors from the energy sector around the current and future challenges of the network in Wallonia. In order to optimize the actions proposed by different entities to strengthen and adapt the distribution networks to ensure the energy transition in Wallonia, Wall4GRiD creates a framework for exchanges and collaborations to develop solutions more efficiently.

The CERACLE ecosystem: has been set up in order to develop and support energy community (EC) projects. The objective of this initiative is to stimulate the sector, to bring together projects that go in the same direction, to create a synergy between the different collective self-consumption projects, and to interface them with the Government as provided for in the Regional Policy Declaration.
The Energy Communities and other models of energy sharing, which are booming in Brussels and in Wallonia, are a major lever for unlocking new renewable capacities and their best use on our networks.

The Walloon Region was right in choosing water among the priority value chains of the Circular Wallonia Strategy 2021-2024. Cross-cutting theme, sustainable water management indeed offers multiple opportunities for economic development while being inseparable from environmental issues.
Appointed in 2022 as coordinator of the water value chain, the H2O Cluster has carried the Circular Water Wallonia roadmap and secured regional funding for the implementation of an action plan that is slowly coming to an end.
However, this is only a first step. The actions carried out and feedback from the field have demonstrated the potential and interest of water circularity for the Walloon economic fabric. The H2O Cluster now intends to capitalize on the results achieved by Circular Water Wallonia by contributing to the establishment of a favorable framework for water circularity practices and by supporting Walloon stakeholders in their circular projects.

The “H2O – Water in Action” initiative aims to accelerate innovation in the water sector, to address multiple challenges:
- Ensure access to water and sanitation for all
- Ensure sustainable management of water resources and protect them
- Improve water quality over the entire cycle
- Increase resilience in the face of climate change
The IIS H2O brings together actors from the world of business, research and the public sector involved in various fields: drinking water production, wastewater treatment and reuse, protection of natural resources…
The SPGE and the SWDE are leaders of the IIS and work closely with the H2O Cluster.
The IIS H2O is part of the Strategic Innovation Domain “DIS 5: Agri-food chains of the future and innovative environmental management.”
