More information
Circular Reno aims to reduce the use of carbon-intensive materials in the construction sector by developing bio-based solutions for the deep energy retrofit of façades and roofs. The project implements four retrofit systems using bio-based materials such as straw, wood, biopolymers, and miscanthus. These solutions will be applied to 88 social housing units across four sites to encourage the adoption of these materials in the retrofit market.
To supply these components, six local and cost-effective value chains will be established, involving farmers, prefab manufacturers, builders, social housing organizations, and public authorities in four countries (Netherlands, Ireland, France, and Germany). Transnational cooperation is essential to develop modeling and decision-making tools that will support the uptake of these innovative solutions by all value chain stakeholders.
Farm, factory, and renovated house visits, along with workshops, training, and MOOCs, will be organized to promote the large-scale adoption of these solutions in Belgium, Germany, France, Ireland, and the Netherlands. The project also aims to improve building regulation policies, assess the economic valuation of carbon storage to boost project economics, and develop a forecasting tool to help policymakers adopt sustainable regional construction materials.
