ARSIA operates in two sectors: animal identification and animal health. In the field of livestock identification, it has, for over 20 years, managed the full traceability of the various species subject to compulsory registration in the national SANITRACE database, under the supervision of the Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain (AFSCA).
Over the past 10 years, it has spearheaded the establishment of a Walloon platform for data exchange between authorised operators, the CERISE Portal (Centre for the Registration and Regulation of Information for Livestock Services). Alongside its role in data collection, aimed at reducing administrative burdens, the CERISE Portal has expanded year on year to offer business intelligence services to livestock owners and their vets, as well as to around fifteen private and public organisations (SPW DG03, awé, Spigva, Cgta, certification bodies, etc.). Recently, Arsia has joined forces with Awé to create the Bigame database (Computerised Management Database for Antibiotics and Medicines in Livestock Farming) and to develop practical, portable recording tools to improve the monitoring of medicine use in livestock farming, whilst actively contributing to the fight against antibiotic resistance as part of the national ‘One Health’ project.
