1• H2 CO2 & e-Fuels
Driven by Europe within the framework of the Green Deal and forming part of the various recovery plans at Belgian and European level, the development of the green hydrogen sector and the capture, transport and storage of CO2 are ready to take off in Europe and in Wallonia.
Hydrogen is an essential energy carrier for developing a system composed of 100% renewable energies by 2050. Among the major assets of green hydrogen, we would highlight its capacity to effectively integrate renewable energies, its long-term storage capability, and its potential to contribute to a decentralisation of renewable production. Furthermore, green hydrogen also plays a key role in the decarbonisation of certain industries, particularly those already using hydrogen, and in heavy-duty mobility, where direct electrification is complex or even impossible.
From the end of 2018, faced with the growth of the green hydrogen market, Cluster TWEED took the initiative by developing a “hydrogen roadmap” for Wallonia. From this initiative was born H2Hub Wallonia, created and led by Cluster TWEED, with the objective of offering a global and cross-sectoral overview of H2 initiatives under development in Wallonia and bringing them together.
Whether the stakeholders involved are academic, public or private, H2Hub Wallonia aims to strengthen collaboration, sectoral dialogue and knowledge sharing at regional, national and international level, and thus to become the Walloon reference for the development of this strategic sector.
Going further

Cluster TWEED is at the forefront of hydrogen innovation in Wallonia, leading initiatives such as the H₂Roadmap> and founding its own ecosystem: H₂Hub Wallonia. These programmes have laid the foundations for a long-term hydrogen strategy, structuring a collaborative ecosystem supported by clear policy frameworks and implementation trajectories towards 2050.

Cluster TWEED and WaterstofNet have been coordinating their regional hydrogen clusters in Wallonia and Flanders for several years, and have jointly established the “Belgian Hydrogen Council” aimed at transcending the different political levels of our country.

The project forms part of the regional strategy: developing the hydrogen value chain with an emphasis on certain key elements of our region. Wallonia benefits from a strategic situation for large-scale mobility and from a concentration of industries to be decarbonised. This project aims to develop the hydrogen ecosystem around a green H2 production project associated with the use of this green molecule in lorries and barges.
