Founded in 2013, WaPT (Wake Prediction Technologies) SRL delivers innovative solutions to complex flow-related challenges in the aeronautics and wind energy sectors. Leveraging advanced CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) tools, operational models, and data analytics, WaPT helps optimize performance and efficiency in critical applications. As a spin-off of UCLouvain, WaPT draws on decades of research and expertise developed at the university since the 1990s. WaPT has developed WAKE4D, an operational platform that predicts the behavior of wake turbulence generated by aircraft, based on aircraft type and surrounding meteorological conditions. WAKE4D has been instrumental in validating new air traffic operation concepts, notably within the WIDAO project for Paris-CDG Airport, and was or is still actively used by EUROCONTROL and the FAA. Since 2015, WaPT has been advancing wind farm optimization through CFD simulations (LES) and operational models for predicting wind turbine behavior. Supported by projects funded by Wallonia, these tools enable WaPT to collaborate with wind farm developers to better understand and characterize turbine performance and wake effects, driving improved design and operational strategies.
